The Daily Egyptian News

The Daily Egyptian is a weekday student-run newspaper that has been in print since 1916 with a daily circulation of about 20,000 for 50 weeks per year. As the official newspaper of SIUC, the DE is committed to being a trusted source of information, commentary and public discourse to help readers understand the issues affecting their lives.

The Daily Egyptian is published by the students of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and operates within the University's School of Journalism. Countless collegiate reporters, editors, photographers and graphic artists have cut their teeth at the campus paper on their way to full-time journalism careers. Except during vacations and exam weeks, The Daily Egyptian print edition runs Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters and TWTh during the summer semester.

Eric Fidler was named the faculty managing editor of the DE in 2004. Fidler has more than 25 years of daily journalism experience. He's covered Chicago as a reporter and editor for The AP from 1991-2004 and served as assistant editor, copy desk chief and copy editor at the Miami Herald from 1986 to 1990. Before that, he produced and designed local and national news sections for the Atlantic City Press for four years. Fidler holds a bachelor's degree from American University (1980) and a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
