Master of Science in Professional Media and Media Management Studies

*Deadline for prioritized funding is January 2, for the fall semester.  Applications will also be accepted for this degree program for admission during spring and summer semesters. Contact the Director of Graduate Studies for the deadline for the semester you are interested in starting. Generally this will be 1-2 months before the beginning of the entry semester for domestic students. International applications will need to be submitted earlier.

Overview

The MS Degree in Professional Media & Management Studies is designed to provide students with an intellectual background in the theory and critique of the communication industries and while preparing to establish careers in communication industries and organizations. This program aims to train intelligent, self aware, flexible graduates who will go on to become leaders in the field. Students focus in one or more of the following tracks:

  • Media Management & Strategic Communication/Advertising
  • Documentary Media Production
  • Journalism: Public Policy/Investigative Reporting
  • New Media

Curriculum

Candidates must complete a minimum of 30 credits including 6 hours of common core requirements, 6-9 credits of track core requirements, 9-12 credits in an emphasis area and a 3-6 credit final project/paper. Download document with example courses at the top of this page.

  5. A writing sample
  6. A small portfolio containing evidence of accomplishment from your undergradate studies or professional experience. Speak with the graduate studies office personnel if you have questions about what to include. Small .doc or .pdf files with embedded images or a URL for web portfolios can be uploaded. Otherwise discs can be sent via post.)
  7. Transcripts (3.0 minimum gpa)
  8. International applicants should have excellent English speaking and writing skills. Those who have not taken significant advanced study in programs taught in English will have to take the TOEFL or IELTS.
    Minimum scores: TOEFL: IBT-100, Computer-250, Paper- 600. IELTS: 7.0
