This week 16 high school students have come to SIU from as far away as Houston, Texas to participate in the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts' Girls Make Movies summer camp. Campers are spending the week learning the foundations of filmmaking and analysis and creating their own short films.  The week culminates in a showing of the young women's work with a reception for friends and family.  Instructors for the 2014 camp include CMCMA faculty members Cade Bursell, Sarah Lewison, and Angela Aguayo, several graduate students in CMCMA, and Taylor Nygaard, Teaching Fellow, University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. The camp is supported by the volunteer work and donations of many individuals across the college, SIU, camp alumni, and greater Carbondale community, and is funded by the Illinois Broadcasters Association and the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts.
