The Global Media Research Center is pleased to present The Advantage and Disadvantage of Zine: The First Generation of Khmer Feminists Reinvent Democracy Monday, September 28th 4:30 p.m. Communications 1032 Professional speaker Anne Elizabeth Moore, author amongst other things of Unmarketable: Brandalism, Copyfighting, Mocketing, and the Erosion of Democracy (The New Press, 2007) and Hey Kidz, Buy This Book! (Soft Skull, 2004), will talk about zines, women's zines and women pushing for more democracy. And specifically about some Khmer women {Khmer is the Cambodian word for… 'Cambodian'}, who have begun to challenged Khmer men's traditional expectations, long seemingly okayed by Khmer women, that women should be docile and uncomplaining. Moore is a lively and witty speaker, and this is a terrific story waiting to be told. She is based at the School of the Chicago Art Institute. This is a free event and is open to the public.  An attendance taking procedure is in place if you would like to offer this as extra credit to students.  Please contact Laura Germann at
