Dr.Gado Alzouma will make a presentation entitled "Social Aspects of Cell Phone Use in Africa" in the Dean's Conference Room, Communications 1032, on Monday, January 23rd from 4:30-6:00 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Global Media Research Center.

Gado Alzouma is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Global Media Research Center of Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He holds a PhD in Anthropology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a DEA (Diplome d'Etudes Approfondies) in Science, Technology and Society from Universite' Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg (France).

Before joining SIU, he taught sociology and anthropology undergraduate courses for more than 10 years in Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey, Niger.

While at this post, he carried out many studies for international development organizations such as the World Bank Health projects in Niger, the UNFPA, the GTZ, etc. From 1998 to 2000, he was associate program officer in the UNICEF-Niger office, and from 2000 to 2002, coordinator, Evaluation and Learning System in the Africa and the Information Society Project of the International Development Research Center (Dakar, Senegal).

Starting August 2006, Gado Alzouma will join American University in Nigeria as Assistant Professor of Anthropology.
