Dr. Patrick Burkart has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at Texas A&M University since 2003. Dr. Burkart is the co-author, along with Tom McCourt of Fordham University's Communication Department, of the forthcoming book The Celestial Jukebox. He is involved in ongoing research on Mexico's political economy of communications begun for the Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade. He is also the Principal Investigator for the Telecommunications and Information Policy Institute's three-state study of competition in local telephone service and broadband. Dr. Burkart co-authored "When Creators, Corporations, and Consumers Collide: Napster and the Development of On-Line Music Distribution" in Media, Culture & Society. He has researched a video game design lexicon with the Digital Media Collaboratory, UT-Austin and worked with Web technology companies, including Excite's online communities, Deja.com's newsgroups, and Interwoven's content management software engineering group.
