Speech Communication and the Global Media Research Center present a lecture and discussion with Dr. Patrick Murphy, The Place of Media Power in the Study of Reception.

Patrick Murphy has taught transnational media, critical-cultural communication theory, documentary media and video production at SIUE since 1994.
His professional credits include producer, director, camera and editor in both educational and documentary video production. As a researcher, Dr. Murphy is principally interested in the relationship between mass media and globalization.
Specifically, he has focused on television's transformative role in the lives of the poor and working class in Latin America.
In 1993-94 he was awarded a Fulbright-Garcia Robles Fellowship to study media reception and culture in Mexico. Dr. Murphy is a member of the International Communications Association (ICA) and National Communication Association (NCA).
