PREEMPTING DISSENT TASERS, SECRECY AND OPEN SOURCE MEDIA PRODUCTION
Professor Andrew Opel, Florida State University
Monday, February 1st 4:30 p.m.
Communications, Room 1032
Drawing on the book Preempting Dissent: The Politics of an Inevitable Future (Arbeiter Ring 2008, co-authored with Greg Elmer), this project examines new forms of social control including Tasers and "no-fly" style watch lists through an open source documentary production process.  Drawing on the collective power of citizen generated media, this research-creation project explores the potential for on-line collaborative media making and bottom up information gathering.  For more information, see www.opensourcecinema.org .
