In this presentation, Dr. Toyosaki discusses culturally specific interpretations from Japanese perspectives of Miyazaki's works and their impact on Japan's women's and environmental movements. He analyzes Miyazaki's representative movies, focusing on the intersection between the heroines' gender identity and social agency performances.

Dr. Satoshi Toyosaki is an assistant professor in the Department of Speech Communication at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He was born and raised in Japan, and is a big fan of Miyazaki's work. He teaches and studies international and intercultural communication from interpretive and critical perspectives.
