MCMA News WSIU Public Broadcasting Illinois Budget Crisis Subject of Local Radio Special

Carbondale, Ill. - - The Illinois budget crisis will take center stage in a special episode of the local WSIU Public Radio series Morning Conversations, airing Tuesday, June 30 at 8:30am on WSIU 91.9 FM, WSIU 91.9 HD, WUSI 90.3 FM, and WVSI 88.9 FM. A repeat of the broadcast is tentatively scheduled for 6pm. WSIU Public Radio is a public media arm of Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC).Joining Morning Conversations host Jennifer Fuller for the half-hour broadcast are political experts John Jackson, Mike Lawrence, and David Yepsen.
"We've all seen and heard the stories of agencies and those in need who are worried about their fate if a budget agreement can't be reached - and some have already received notice they will be laid off," said Fuller. "This special episode of Morning Conversations will attempt to provide a broader perspective of what is happening in Illinois government, and why.".
Lawrence is the former Executive Director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute (PSPPI) at SIUC. After a distinguished career as a journalist, Lawrence served as press secretary and senior advisor to former Governor Jim Edgar before coming to the PSPPI at the request of Paul Simon. Yepsen, the current Executive Director of the Institute, spent decades as a political reporter for the Des Moines Register prior to his arrival in Carbondale. Jackson is a nationally respected emeritus professor of Political Science at SIUC, now serving as a visiting professor at the PSPPI.
Morning Conversations airs on WSIU Public Radio each Tuesday at 8:30am and can be accessed at WSIU's website at www.wsiu.orgby selecting the Radio tab and scrolling to the WSIU Radio Featured Media option.
