CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The photographic work of Ansel Adams (1902-1984) is familiar to many. His work graces calendars, greeting cards and coffee table books as well as holding pride of place in elite art galleries and collections world-wide.

In January 2010, a representative collection of his work comes to Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Dona Bachman, director of University Museum, said the Ansel Adams exhibit will be one of the most prestigious ever to come to the museum. The exhibit is part of an overall focus on photographic art this year, she said, noting the ìstrong cinema and photography program at SIUC and the high level of interest in fine photography in the general public.î

The exhibit, ìAnsel Adams: The Man Who Captured the Earthís Beauty,î will run from Jan. 24 to March 21, 2010. The exhibit includes 25 of Adamsí iconic black and white photographs.

An Adamsí photograph is part of a current exhibit at University Museum. ìMasters of Photography,î featuring 27 master photographers from the museumís permanent collection, runs through May 31, 2010.

Summer hours for University Museum are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. There is no admission fee, but donations are welcome. Visit www.museum.siu.edu for a complete summer exhibit schedule.
