Deborah Tudor Ph.D.
Associate Professor, Cinema and Photography and Interim Dean, CMCMA, Interim Associate Dean for Graduate Studies
Dr. Tudor earned both her Master of Arts degree and doctorate in the Radio, Television and Film Department at Northwestern University. Before coming to SIU in 2006 as Chair of Cinema and Photography, she was an associate professor in the Department of Communication at DePaul University. Tudor has researched and written on British, Australian, and war cinema, digital cinema technologies, sports, and documentary. She is the author of Hollywood's Vision of Team Sports: Gender, Race and Heroes, as well as several book chapters and numerous papers in journals like Cineaction, Media, Culture, and Society, Jump Cut, and Cinema Journal. Since 2005, Tudor has primarily researched and written about digital technology and culture. She serves as Interim Dean for the College. From 2010-2012, she was Interim Director of the College's Global Media Research Center.
Before becoming an academic, she worked as a musician, a radio news reporter, and as a producer of public service announcements for the Kentucky Department for Human Resources. Tudor is a member of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, the International Association for Communication and Media Research, and the Union for Democratic Communication.
