Daily Egyptian's Centennial Year
June 28, 2016
The Daily Egyptian turns 100 this October and you might have heard that we are throwing a party. The celebration is getting bigger and better.
We'd love to have you join your fellow alumni and the current DE staff during Homecoming Weekend, Friday and Saturday, October 21-22, 2016.
Friday we will kick off with tours of the Daily Egyptian converged newsroom from 3 to 4:30 p.m. with Senior Lecturer and Journalist-in-Residence Bill Recktenwald as your host.
Starting at 5:00 p.m. in the John C. Guyon Auditorium at Morris Library, Joe Sobczyk, JRNL ’80, White House Editor for Bloomberg and DE veteran, will give a short talk about his career. After Joe speaks, a panel discussion on the future of journalism will take place in the auditorium with former Daily Egyptian editors Monique Garcia of the Chicago Tribune, Jackie Spinner, former reporter for The Washington Post, and Jackie Koszczuk, former Washington Correspondent for Knight Ridder Newspapers.
Beginning at 6 p.m. a reception with food and drinks will take place at the Morris Library Rotunda with catering by 17th Street Barbecue and fine dining fare from Global Gourmet. There will be a cash bar serving beer and wine.
During the reception the 100th Anniversary book will be officially released and copies will be available for purchase.
Following the reception Carbondale legend Tawl Paul and Slappin' Henry Blue will begin performing at 9 p.m. at Studio A in the Communications Building with beer available for guests.
Saturday, the Daily Egyptian will have a tent on tailgate row south of Saluki Stadium for invited guests and reunion attendees during pre-game celebrations. The tailgate is open from 11 a.m. until game time at 2 p.m.
So please make a note of the additional information and locations and we hope to see you there!
The reception, tent and band are being sponsored by Julie (Moller) Guida of The Guida Family Foundation.
If you plan to come, please R.S.V.P. to LaVon Donley-Cornett at email@example.com or call her at 618/453-7473 and let her know if you are bringing one or more guests by October 7, 2016.
