MCMA Grad Mi Young Park Receives Film Grant

Southern Illinois University

Good News from a Recent MCMA Graduate and Alumni

August 16, 2020

Dear Colleagues:
I am delighted to report some good news: Mi Young Park (MCMA PhD graduate, 2018, with a dissertation supervised by Dr. Jyostna Kapur) has just received a grant from the National Research Foundation of Korea to work on South Korean zombie films, including the Netflix original series, Kingdom. She is theorizing these representations as a form of abject post-humanism, expressive of the emotional and experiential consequences of precarity (anxiety, anomie, alienation and anger), and the will to resist.

Take care,

Dr. Walter C. Metz, Professor, Department of Cinema and Photography
Acting Associate Dean, College of Mass Communication and Media Arts
