SIU Students Bring Home Addy Awards!

March 07, 2013

March came in like a lion Friday night in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, as the 2012-2013 ADDY Awards Banquet got under way. Titled “the Greatest Show on Earth” by its host, the local American Advertising Federation (AAF) affiliate Tri-State Advertising and Marketing Professionals (Tri-StateAMP), the circus-themed event got under way a little before 7:00 P.M., with a Tri-State AMP board member serving as ringmaster to announce the industry and student ADDY winners.

Entering the student winners’ circle was a print advertisement by JRNL 302 student Whitney Drake, who received a Bronze ADDY for her Seoul, Korea destination ad. JRNL 402 students Brittany Strong, Jeremy Meyer and Michael Faletti shared the Bronze ADDY spotlight, with their print campaign for Vera Wang Wedding Apparel.

Drake picked up her second award, a Silver ADDY, for her Reebok print ad; followed  by a Gold ADDY performance by Juvonna McGarry and Casey Shepard, who snared theirs for a graphically arresting campaign for Cuisinart Cutlery.

It was winners Alex Hines, Jacoby Duckworth and Brooke Pippins, however, who took home Gold for two entries: an engagement ring campaign for Neil Lane, directed at divorced males contemplating remarriage; and a humorous campaign that featured dogs performing human activities.

Both the Silver and Gold winners were forwarded to District 9, Iowa, this week for the next level of judging.
