Channel Marketing Manager

Mike is a 1979 graduate of SIUC with a BS in Journalism / Advertising Sequence.

He has worked within corporate advertising / marketing environments for over 35 years, specializing in retail and B2B with major corporations such as Sony Electronics, Motorola, Federated Department Stores, Walgreens, Montgomery Ward and Ulta Cosmetics.

For the past 14+ years, Mike has been recognized as one of the outstanding advertising / marketing associates within Sony Electronics, and was an inductee into the prestigious Samurai Society, as a key top contributor to Sony’s business.  He earned the Sony Strategic Advertising & Promotions award for three consecutive years, and more recently received the Sony COO award for outstanding advertising, marketing and promotion performance.  In addition he earned the CEO award at Ulta Cosmetics, along with the President’s Award at Montgomery Ward.

For the past several years he has been a supporter of SIU by volunteering for various alumni and recruiting events.  His oldest son Kyle graduated from the SIU MCMA Journalism Integrated Advertising program in 2013, and works for CVS Drugs in the Chicagoland area.  His younger son Bryan is in his junior year at SIUC, majoring in Information Systems Technology, in addition to working as a Computer Lab Technician in the MCMA building.

In his spare time, Mike has been a guest lecturer within the Advertising & Promotions and B2B Marketing classes at the College of Lake County, Grayslake, IL campus.  He lectures on various examples of B2B Marketing, advertising campaign assets and creative elements, ROI analysis, along with new emerging media.  He and his wife visit the Carbondale area several times a year to see their son(s), along with hitting the local golf courses, Southern Illinois Wine Trail, and hiking at Giant City.

Mike grew up in Northbrook, IL (the “North Shore”, about 20 miles north of Chicago).  His family moved to Dillon, CO (9,600 ft up in the mountains) while he was at SIU, so he moved there after graduating.  That is where his first after-SIU job was located, working in advertising for a small newspaper in Vail, CO.   At the time, not much to do in the mountains in the summer after the ski season, so he moved back to Chicago after about a 1.5 years, as the professional advertising opportunities were so much better in the big city.  He accepted an advertising position with Walgreens HQ, about a week after moving back.

Mike resides in Buffalo Grove, IL with his wife Susan, their two sons Kyle and Bryan, along with their dogs Rolo and Lucky.
